YES!!!! OMG I am having the same issue, I was so happy when Crucible fixed the problem, and I have had a headache all day since the 1.02 patch seems to have messed everything up again!!! Anyway, I sent a bug report, but I will post here my system specs. The game was running like a charm after Crucible, but now it's UGH again...
I am kind of glad to know I'm not the only one.

Well, they did say they were releasing a hotfix patch tomorrow that should fix various issues, including localized client issues... which I am knocking on wood, but I would say at this point I am not optimistic they are even aware of this issue (I hope I'm wrong, but it's one of those gut feelings.) Anyway, it did feel good to be back to EVE, but I may cancel my sub once again if they don't fix this, so let's see what happens after Downtime... Anyone want to place ISK bets as to whether the patch will address the issue? |

I will be the first to admit my computer isn't anything great for gaming. However, Crucible 1.0.0 fixed the problem completely, and the game was playable, and in fact it played beautifully with what I'd call "middle of the road" graphics settings. 1.0.2 brought the problem back, and the latest hotfix patch did NOT fix it. I'm pretty much deciding I'm not going to renew at the end of the month, as it's simply very disheartening to see this problem come back AFTER it is fixed. I will of course recheck these forums daily, and try any reasonable suggestions in an attempt to fix the problem, but so far none of have been successful. I hope CCP is at least aware of this, but like I said earlier, I doubt it. However, I would be thrilled to be proven wrong.
I of course also feel stupid for giving my friend the new 60 day free trial after I was going on and on about how awesome the latest expansion was (in part I was thrilled cause they fixed the problem), so I guess I was foolish to stick my neck out for CCP. |

Alright, I submitted the bug report as you instructed. Also, I submitted a bug report yesterday as well, the ID of which is 122980 which does have a clear screenshot of the issue. Also I ran logserver, and I jumped about 3 or 4 times and had the bug occur. I didn't know how to post the results of the logserver in my bug report, so if you can inform me as to how to do so, that would be excellent.
Also, I am glad I have been proven wrong and that the devs are working to resolve the issue. I really do want to help you get to the bottom of this! |

As the common theme seems to be that Crucible 1.0.2 is the problem, is it possible to load up an Eve client with Crucible 1.0.0 where the problem seemed to be fixed and run a logserver report under those conditions while gate jumping? maybe something different is happening when gate jumping between different versions? Just a hypothesis. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to run TQ in a previous version, so I can't test it myself. (Unless I do and I'm just not aware of it, in which case please explain how one could do that..) |

Jimi Crackcorn wrote:Sassums wrote:There's your problem - you are using a shared onboard video card.
With the graphic requirements of EVE I am surprised the game runs at all. God people like you are annoying. The game runs fine on the card at 60 fps on all high settings. What's the purpose of you coming in here knocking something you know nothing about? Yes the visuals are nice in this game but they aren't anything special or new. These onboard cards are more than capable of running most newer games just fine. You don't have to pay 500 dollars for a graphics card to play a video game, despite popular belief. This is clearly a problem with the game, not the card. Edit: Just to add, I also submitted a bug report as soon as I noticed this. It also appears to be happening when I first launch the game, not just when undocking/jumping.
I'll say that Intel cards aren't the greatest, but I mean, it'll work, and if I could have frapsed the video of it running like a charm I would have. Anyway, I think that in Sassums post he likely means well, but I would just say ignore it as it is clear he doesn't know what he is talking about in this specific case. However, this is also a forum within an MMO and there are of course Trolls, so if it's not productive, just ignore it I'll say. (which is why I rarely post here)
Anyway, I will be logging on to EVE shortly and sending everyone who posted here with an issue a quick eve mail to please post to the bug report and follow the directions as described by CCP Vertex so we can get this the bottom of this and get back to playing the game. |

Max Warp wrote:CCP Vertex wrote:I am still looking into this issue and we have a few leads but one thing I would like to ask people to do is update your INTEL drivers. I noticed a few of you have out dated drivers, you can find the latest INTEL HD drivers from this link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?lang=engPlease reply to this thread if this resolves the issue for you. I'd love to use the ones Intel provides directly but due to some OEM-issues Windows insists on not installing other than OEM-stamped versions on the laptop (like with HP laptops). So we can only go with the OEM versions which drag a bit behind the latest.
Hey so when I got Skyrim, I had to update my drivers, and the Toshiba stamp made it seem impossible to upgrade to the better version of the generic intel driver. However, the good news is there IS a workaround. First download the latest driver for your computer as specified by CCP Vertex
Then, you have to run your Windows 7 in the "secret" administrator mode. This mode is normally hidden for those of you who are not computer geniuses (myself included). To do this, follow the steps outlined here:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/
Now, in terms of changing your graphics driver, now that you are running in administrator mode, you actually have to roll back to the Standard VGA Graphics adapter (this will make it so that you don't have the tagged driver override). To do this, while in administrator mode, go to the device manager, and click on display drivers. Right click the driver and tell it you want to update the driver software, and in the next window you should be able to tell it that you want to Browse my computer for software. Then click on "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer. After doing THAT, tell it to update to the standard VGA driver... you have now successfully rolled back to a factory standard driver, and now you can finally tell it to upgrade to the generic intel driver (which is more up to date). I know that was alot of steps, but it worked and my computer (as unadvanced as it might be) runs Skyrim fine... if only it worked for Eve. Anyway, goodluck updating those drivers!
By the way... PLEASE DO BE CAREFUL IN ADMINISTRATOR MODE, YOU CAN ROYALLY SCREW UP YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU DO DUMB THINGS... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...
Anyhoot, I will try running on SiSi as well... gotta re download the test server client. Also, appears there is an even more recent version of my Intel driver, so I will update... THEN try TQ, and if the problem persists, then try SiSi. |

Sorry to keep posting here, but another note about updating your Intel Drivers from the website cited by CCP Vertex. Make sure if you are running Windows 7 64 bit that when you download the driver update file you get the .zip version not the .exe version. Even though they both say it will upgrade your driver to version 8.15.10.2559, the .exe is actually the previous 8.15.10.2509, if you are unsure, after downloading your update check the readme file to see what version it says it is upgrading to. Basically it boils down to the fact that someone at INTEL's Download center screwed up and posted the wrong version, so I hope this post clarifys. Remember, check that the readme file is in sync with what you think you downloaded! You want version 8.15.10.2559!! |

So, updating to the latest Intel Graphics driver did not fix the problem on TQ. Unfortunately I am currently not able to access Sisi because I'm guessing the last mirrior was before I resubbed to Eve when the problem was initially fixed (I always start a trial account before resubbing to make sure it's working). I looked closer at my Log server file and I have the same instance as Max Warp when the device shuts off and then recovers.
CCP, would you like me to resubmit a bug report on TQ? Let me know here and I will do so. |

If I'm lucky alt tabbing will work but I've already had to restart the game twice after jumping now. The strange thing is that I can veiw the desktop just fine but when I switch to the game it's just completely black. Luckily this doesn't happen so often.
Did you do anything like change graphics drivers? or are you still running as you were before without any changes to your drivers?
Actually with the most recent driver, I just got the black screen problem where it doesnt return, luckily at the time I was running log server, so I will submit a new bug report... At the very end of it is lots and lots of red error messages... hopefully sheds some light on the problem.

Well, if you haven't already, keep posting bug reports, and taking any data (and if you are someone with some idea of how to interpret the log server data, then keep posting any possible leads). Anyway, the dev team prolly won't deal with it till Monday, hopefully they will get to the bottom of it before Christmas break (Anyone want to bet ISK as to whether that will happen?) |

Actually, the problem didn't really start until they changed to the Carbon Based graphics in Incarna (at least for me that's when it started) which was only like 6-8 months ago, then it was fixed in Crucible (I don't know if they deliberately 'fixed' it or if it was just something they removed/changed after Incarna) I'm still optimistic provided we get regular updates from the devs. As CCP Vertex stated, they were pursuing leads, though I am curious as to what those leads are. I would also like to know if they are using a computer with the Intel Integrated chip to reproduce the issue. Also, CCP has *traditionally* provided excellent customer service, however, over the last year or two (and this is in MY OPINION) that started to lapse, but recently as Crucible has shown, I do get the impression that they are trying to recover on the Customer Service End of things, so I do think CCP Vertex is sincere when they are trying to replicate and address the issue. I know the issue is obviously frustrating to those of us currently experiencing it, and unless they were to fix it "right the hell now" it won't be fast enough, but for myself, so long as they keep us updated *daily* on progress (but let's face it they probably aren't working over the weekend), and give us some real information (basically treat us like the savvy Eve online users that we are) then I am satisfied for now.
Anyway, that's my rant. |

Yeah, it is getting out of hand, and I don't want to be limited to flying in "safe space" because there is the chance my comp might black out and not come back which would leave me vulnerable to a gank where I don't get a chance to respond... so let's see what the devs have to say on Monday... hopefully they have good leads (or maybe can just release an optional patch with all the UI updates OPTIONAL) or something, |

So I've been googling for workarounds, and I have tried most of the reasonable suggestions that people who also experienced this issue have said, which mostly include editing registries having to do with TDR, which stands for Timeout Detection and Recovery. Supposedly Windows 7 and vista have this "feature" where if your system seems to "lag" or abruptly change framerate it causes a sudden shutdown and restart of the graphics driver, hence the black flicker. Also, in terms of the "black screen of death" there is a set number of times within a period of time that if this happens, the driver doesnt recover and instead waits an even longer time to restart. Now, in Vista there is a registry called "TdrDelay" that the default is "2" which means after 2 seconds of supposed "lag" it will do the reset. However, in Windows 7 they have gotten rid of or replaced with registry key with something entirely different. I tried adding the registry key as was suggested here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/51028-help-me-configure-registry-correctly-solve-tdr-issue.html
but that did not seem to solve the problem in Eve. Anyway, if anyone wants to try those steps feel free, like I said, being restricted to "high sec" in order to safeguard from computer problems really is boring... |

First tried increasing the Tdr delay which just.. well, caused a longer delay before crashing the driver. I then tried completely turning Tdr off, which I recommend against doing as upon running eve with it off your computer will have to be force restarted and Tdr turned back on. Reason being eve just completely hangs the computer. I could move the mouse freely but could not alt tab, ctrl alt del, nothing. Just completely locked on eve. I waited for over 10 minutes for it to respond and nothing. There goes that glimmer of hope :/
Hey so you were actually able to disable TDR? are you running windows 7? how did you do it, cause I added teh D_Word TdrDelay and set it to 0 and I still got the same black screen flicker, so I didn't think it did much of anything. In all likelyhood I did it wrong anyway. I had to add TdrDelay and TdrLevel as Dwords and then I just left them both at 0, and it had no effect whatsoever. So if I did it wrong, please let me know. |

Well, yeah patch 1.03 didn't fix the issue, but since it seems the majority of us tried it early on Sisi I wasn't really expecting it to either. My next idea is to see if I can download Crucible at version 1.0.0 to at least see if it still doesn't get screen flicker at the login screen and I can run log server and submit that so perhaps there is at least some data from before things got messed up so there is a direct comparison.
QUICK UPDATE: So yeah... having difficulty finding a place I can download a version of Eve between Crucible 1.0.0 and 1.0.2... so if anyone has any (legit) places I could grab it, let me know... |

Hmm, that seems to be a combination of a mac problem and an Intel problem. Also, are you getting the issue where you jump and the screen flickers black and returns about 2 seconds after the screen has loaded after you jump? That's the primary issue here |

So unfortunately, Eve's self updater is SO advanced (yes sarcasm) that it automatically updates to Crucible 1.0.3 even if you are running off of Incarna, so there is no way I can see to get Eve to start up with Crucible 1.0.0 where the problem had initially been fixed so I could run a side by side log server analysis of the login screen between both versions.
I guess we'll have to leave it up to the pros... unless anyone else has any good ideas... |

I guess we'll have to leave it up to the pros... unless anyone else has any good ideas... What happens if you launch with the internet disconnected?
The issue is that I happen to have my old EVE installer from Incarna (when the whole screen flicker problem originally started) my thought process was that after Installing EVE on incarna, the old update process would make me update through every single build, which would mean I would eventually hit Crucible 1.0.0 and I could perform my analysis, but instead it automaticaly goes from Incarna to Crucible 1.0.3 where the problem remains. My suspicion is that a line of code that was taken out in Crucible 1.0.0 came back in 1.0.2 (both my parents were IT specialists, and they said that programmers always have this kind of conflict when a bug is gotten rid of by one programmer and comes back with another). |

Hmm, could this hringur.dds be the problem? it says unsupported format... does anyone know, or am I just shooting in the dark here? I checked some of my log server reports from jumping that I took previously, and the hringur.dds is always there and is always in an unsupported format... whatever that means. Hopefully the devs see this and know what it is. |

Just out of curiosity has anyone with the current issue tries running eve in compatibility mode? With say xp or something? I will attempt it when I get home. But in the meantime...
Also thanks for the links to the crucible 1.0 installer I will see what I can do with logserver running to make a comparison. I'm prolly shooting in the dark here but I'm on break from my job and grad school work (writing my thesis on online gaming) so I'm trying to fix the problem as I like to keep busy. Anyway keep up the dialogue. |

I will find your GPU model in the test lab later today and run some tests on it but this issue isnGÇÖt an easy one to reproduce. Also, I can tell you how to reproduce it, go buy a Dell n5010, I've tried it on my girlfriend's n5010, same exact problem. lmao My laptop is the Dell n7010 with the I5 and the Intel HD Graphics, So maybe its an issue with Dell in this series with the Intel i3-i7 chip sets? Hmm yeah that is interesting that the problem only seems to be on Windows 7 with 64Bit. If i had the oppertunity to run XP on here i would to test it but i dont got the XP CD's to do it.
Welp, I have a Toshiba and I have the same issue, so it's nothing to do with Dell. Anyway, I tried running Eve in compatibility mode, no change either. :-( The window's 7 64 may have some relevance, but at the moment I can't think of a way to test it. |

Well, I was able to launch Crucible 1.0 and as I predicted NO SCREEN FLICKER!!!! Obviously I can't get beyond the login screen, but yes, there is a version that at least launches without the screen flicker... now if we can only figure out what is causing it... |

Can you run logserver from both builds and do a diff on the output. Could be interesting.
If you want to send me a private eve mail with a real life e-mail address I will gladly forward you live server reports from both versions where all I do is get to the login screen then turn off the game, I did some comparison myself, nothing popped up out of the ordinary, even the whole error with hrigular.dds (or whatever it was called) showed up in 1.0.0, so as the dev said it wasn't the problem. I am curious about MJ Incognito's idea about the Transparency Displays, because I do beleive there was some stuff about that when they changed the UI in 1.0.2. However, here is my disclaimer, it is entirely possible I have no clue what I'm talking about. |

Well, as for my subscription, it really depends on if A) the issue gets fixed or B) if the devs keep us updated on progress. So I'll make that decision, the game is PLAYABLE with all the graphics settings turned down (still gets flicker, but it's quicker and I dont get permalock... at least so far... Anyway, I do want to see what they come up with after the holidays. |

Welp quick update, I do indeed get black screen of death, so like I said, I want to see what the devs say after Christmas (hopefully they will have something). But yeah, being only in highsec is boring. |

CCP Vertex wrote:Hi all, I just wanted to give you all an update. We havenGÇÖt been able to reproduce the issue in-house but we're looking at purchasing some new hardware to assist with this investigation.
We're also involving INTEL as the 'reset' is happening in the device driver and not the game client, if the game crashed then we would have crash dumps that would help us pin point the issue but because it's a driver reset no crash dump is generated.
Great to hear! Quick question:, You mentioned the crash dump files, would they be useful to you guys and is there a way we could submit those? If so, where would I find them? |

Hey all, so I took a break since EVE seemed not to work and they weren't fixing the bug issue. However, I had seen that they had released like 9 patches in that time so I fired up a trial account and tested and tested and tested and I was happy to see they didn't have the issue (at least for me anymore). Anyway, can anyone state if they are still having the Intel graphics dark issue? I VERY HESITANTLY resubbed for Eve online, and I ask the devs to please thoroughly test upcoming patches!!!! I just payed my resub and would really hate if it broke again! That said, I'm happy to see it is fixed, (at least for me, and I haven't seen any recent complaints on this forum thread). |

Welp I did run into the issue, but its random, sporadadic and not every time, so yeah :-( anyway, I'm prolly done with Eve again, just cause it's like meh at this point. We'll see though. |
